In this video I want to talk about what is golden syrup, some surprising benefits.
Who can eat waffles or pancakes without syrup right? One of the most popular syrups is maple syrup. Maple syrup comes from maple trees, but what about golden syrup? Is there a golden tree that it comes from?
Golden sugar comes from the juices of sugarcane when they evaporate. The good thing about this syrup is does not harden when temperature drops, so if you are going to Antarctica Golden syrup is what you want.
Sugar does have 1 large competition and do you know what that is? Yea, it’s high fructose corn syrup that comes from corn because it’s cheaper to make and it’s in everything.
So which is healthier? I’m going to guess that you already know the answer. Princeton University discovered that rats that were fed high fructose corn syrup gained more weight than those fed table sugar, even when the calories where the same.
High fructose corn syrup is sweeter about 1.5 times more than table sugar according to a 2003 article in the journal of Chiropractic Medicine.
What makes golden syrup unique is that it has 3 sugars in it. That would be glucose, fructose and sucrose. Your body uses the sugars differently.
We know sugar is bad, but the right amount does have benefits and consuming a little bit of all 3 can be good.
According to a study by the Chicago Tribune, glucose significantly raised the level of neural activity in patients for about 20 minutes following intake of it. Your body instantly uses glucose and it’s found in starches.
Fructose however cannot be used immediately by the body. First it’s processed by the liver and it takes longer to work. This is the sugar that comes from fruit usually. You get the energy kick a little later.
Lastly is sucrose it has both fructose and glucose in it. In a nutshell Golden syrup can’t freeze and you get the energy benefits now and later by consuming it. Plus it helps you think and your memory. The danger is too much sugar of any type isn’t good.
